A Major Milestone for Optiemus Drones

Optiemus Unmanned Systems (OUS), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Optiemus Infracom Limited, recently reached a significant milestone at the Him Drone-A-Thon 2024. Organized by the Indian Army, this event took place in the challenging terrains of Leh-Ladakh, testing India’s most advanced unmanned systems. Optiemus’s Vajra series drones deliver outstanding results, raising the bar for endurance and mission capabilities in drone technology.

Showcasing the Vajra Series: High-Endurance Drones Take Center Stage

OUS showcased two of its high-endurance drones—Vajra 65 and Vajra 100—at the event. These drones demonstrated remarkable capabilities at Wari La and Umling La, which are situated at altitudes of approximately 15,000 and 19,200 feet, respectively.

Key Capabilities Demonstrated:

  • Bomb Drop and Surveillance: Both the Vajra 65 and Vajra 100 drones demonstrated loitering munitions (bomb drop capabilities) and long-range surveillance.
  • Endurance and Performance: The Vajra 100 set a new record, achieving an altitude of 23,000 feet and a range of 10,000 meters with a flight endurance of 70 minutes at Umling La.

Achievements at Him Drone-A-Thon 2024

The trials began at Wari La Pass, where the Vajra 65 drone successfully traveled 5,000 meters and reached an altitude of 17,460 feet with an endurance of 50 minutes, including a bomb drop from 328 feet. Meanwhile, the Vajra 100 achieved an impressive 18,280 feet altitude and a flight endurance of 80 minutes.

Moving to Umling La Pass—the world’s highest motorable pass at 19,200 feet—the Vajra 65 pushed its limits, achieving a maximum altitude of 21,300 feet and completing a bomb drop from over 1,000 feet. The Vajra 100 excelled in harsh conditions, achieving a height of 23,000 feet and an endurance of 70 minutes.

Breaking New Ground in Drone Technology

Mr. Ashok Gupta, Executive Chairman of Optiemus Infracom Limited, expressed immense pride in the achievement, stating, “OUS reaffirms its commitment to advancing India’s defense and surveillance capabilities through innovative, high-performance unmanned systems.”

These remarkable milestones showcase Optiemus’s leadership in the development of homegrown drone technology, designed to meet the growing needs of both defense and industrial applications. By achieving high-altitude missions and setting benchmarks in endurance, OUS is pushing the limits of what drones can achieve under challenging conditions.
