India Launches 5 Anti-Dumping Investigations Targeting Chinese Imports

India’s Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) has initiated 5 anti-dumping investigations targeting Chinese imports.
The investigations cover a range of products, including chemicals, pharmaceuticals, industrial equipment, and copper tubes, as per the ANI news report.
These actions follow complaints from domestic manufacturers concerning dumped and subsidised imports causing local industry harm.
Scope of the Anti-Dumping Investigations
The DGTR's investigations include Persulphates, Clavulanic Acid, certain counterbalance forklifts, internally grooved copper tubes, and Caprolactam. In addition to China, some investigations extend to imports from the European Union, Japan, Thailand, Viet Nam, Russia, and the United States.
Local companies have reported injury due to dumped imports, prompting these inquiries. The investigation on Persulphates is solely focused on Chinese imports. The DGTR noted that the dumping margin significantly surpassed the de-minimis level.
Product-Specific Details
The investigation on Clavulanic Acid, an active pharmaceutical ingredient, involves imports from China and the EU. Evidence suggests that dumped imports have delayed local industry establishment. Certain Counterbalance Forklifts, imported from China and Japan, also face scrutiny, indicating price undercutting impacts on the domestic market.
For Internally Grooved Copper Tubes and Pipes, the DGTR is not only undertaking an anti-dumping probe but also a countervailing-duty investigation involving China, Thailand, and Viet Nam, to address alleged subsidies on these imports.

Implications of the Investigations on Various Imports
The investigation into Caprolactam imports involves China, Russia, Thailand, and the US. Despite declining domestic demand, import volumes have surged, with prices falling below those of local producers. Evidence supports claims of dumping and resulting industry injuries.
Globally, Chinese exports face increased scrutiny amid persistent trade tensions. For fiscal year 2025-26, India's merchandise exports were recorded at $441.78 billion, with imports amounting to $774.98 billion.
Conclusion
The 5 anti-dumping probes initiated by India’s DGTR include a focus on Chinese imports of chemicals, pharmaceuticals, forklifts, and copper tubes. Alleged industry injury underpins these investigations, despite varied import origins and overall trade value data.
