70 Million Farmers Get Digital IDs Linked to Land Records; Target 110 Million by FY27

India has issued over 70 million digital IDs (Kisan Pehchaan Patra) for farmers, linked to land records, under the Digital Agriculture Mission. These IDs include details like land ownership, crops grown, and other important information.
The agriculture ministry plans to issue 9 million more IDs by the end of this fiscal year and cover 110 million farmers by FY27.
State-Wise Rollout
So far, 14 states have distributed these IDs.
- Top states: Uttar Pradesh (14 million), Maharashtra (11 million), Madhya Pradesh (8.7 million), Rajasthan (7.8 million)
- Others: Gujarat (5.6 million), Andhra Pradesh (4.5 million), Tamil Nadu (3.1 million), Telangana (3.1 million), Karnataka (4.5 million)
- Smaller rollouts in: Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Odisha, Assam, and Bihar.
Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab are also expected to join soon.
Why Digital IDs Matter
These IDs help governments:
- Provide direct benefit transfers like PM Kisan cash support
- Verify crop details for Kisan Credit Cards and crop insurance (PMFBY)
- Issue soil health cards
- Design targeted welfare schemes
Tenant and lessee farmers can also be included, depending on state policies.
AgriStack and Digital Push
The IDs are part of the ₹2,817 crore Digital Agriculture Mission, launched in September 2024. The mission includes:
- AgriStack (geo-referenced village maps, farmer registry, crop data)
- Digital Crop Surveys (DCS) for verifying crops sown
- Soil fertility mapping
Already, 30 states have agreed to adopt these digital tools.

Conclusion
India’s farmer digital ID system is a major step toward building a smart agriculture ecosystem. By FY27, over 110 million farmers will be digitally linked, helping deliver personalised schemes, easy credit, insurance, and better farm support. The challenge ahead lies in ensuring the inclusion of tenant farmers and keeping land records updated.
