eMudhra Share Price Falls Nearly 2%; Announces Exit from Global SSL/TLS Business

eMudhra Limited has decided to withdraw from the global SSL/TLS certificate business, the company said in an exchange filing dated October 22, 2026.
The board approved the decision after reviewing the business and its contribution to the company’s overall operations. The company noted that it would focus on enterprise solutions and trust services other than SSL/TLS certificates.
SSL/TLS Business Contributes 1% of Revenue
The SSL/TLS certificate business accounts for around 1% of eMudhra’s global revenue, according to chairman V. Srinivasan. He said the cost and complexity of running the business had increased over the years, partly due to data sovereignty and compliance requirements.
The company also cited competition from large entities that provide SSL/TLS certificates free of cost. It said these factors had reduced the business’s potential and return on investment compared with its overall revenue base.
Company Reports Details of Recent Incident
The decision follows a recent incident involving eMudhra’s global SSL/TLS certificates. Srinivasan said the company revoked the affected certificate authorities within 14 hours of discovering the incident and disclosed it promptly.
According to the company, no end-entity certificates had been issued by the affected certificate authority. It also stated that its infrastructure had not been compromised, no data had been breached, and physical and logical security controls remained intact.
The company said the incident attracted considerable attention on social media, bringing scrutiny to a business that contributes a small share of its revenue.
Existing Certificates to Be Replaced
eMudhra’s G1 RSA roots will continue to serve customers until the transition is complete. The company will work with browser programmes and customers to manage the process.
Affected customers will be contacted, and replacement certificates will be provided free of cost through partners. Revocation and certificate status services will remain available until all issued certificates expire or are replaced.
The company will also submit a full root-cause report to fulfil its remaining commitments to browser root programmes.
Other Services Remain Unaffected
eMudhra said its other operations would continue as normal. These include digital signature certificates, eSign, enterprise PKI platforms emCA and CertiNext, the emSigner eSignature Suite, and identity and authentication solutions SecurePass and emAS.
