NTPC Explores International Green Fuel Sales with Japan, South Korea, and Germany

NTPC is looking beyond India for buyers of green fuels. As per the Reuters report, Chairman Gurdeep Singh said on Tuesday (October 13, 2026) that the company is talking to potential customers in Japan, South Korea and Germany as it works on a proposed green hydrogen hub in Andhra Pradesh.
Green Ammonia and Methanol Planned
The project is expected to produce green ammonia and green methanol. Both are easier to transport by ship than hydrogen, making them more suitable for overseas sales.
Singh said the focus needs to shift from testing hydrogen projects to making them commercially viable. For NTPC, that means finding customers willing to buy the fuel over the long term.
India's 2030 Target
India wants to produce 5 million tonnes of green hydrogen a year by 2030, with around $2.1 billion in government subsidies supporting the plan.
Finding buyers remains a challenge for green fuel producers. Without long-term purchase agreements, companies may struggle to justify the cost of setting up large production facilities. NTPC's ongoing talks are aimed at finding demand for its planned output.

Conclusion
NTPC is talking to overseas buyers while developing its proposed green hydrogen hub in Andhra Pradesh. The project is expected to produce green ammonia and green methanol, but securing long-term buyers will be important before the business can scale up.
