On May 13, 2024, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a global leader in IT services, consulting, and business solutions, announced, through an exchange filing, that it will develop a Global Artificial Intelligence (AI) Center of Excellence in Paris.
The new AI centre will be located in the soon-to-be-constructed TCS PacePortTM in Paris’ La Défense neighbourhood. When it opens in June 2024, it will mark the seventh location of its kind in TCS’ extensive Pace network, including locations in Amsterdam, London, New York, Pittsburgh, Toronto, and Tokyo. The TCS AI Centre of Excellence in Paris aims to provide French firms with access to the most advanced global capabilities by utilising TCS’s extensive worldwide network of startups, academic institutions, and research groups.
In order to create cutting-edge solutions in the field of human-centric AI, the new centre will integrate into France’s expanding AI ecosystem and take advantage of its rich talent pool in design and engineering. Its main goal will be to push the limits of AI design and development to meet societal priorities and corporate efficiencies. As part of the France 2030 strategy, the impact areas will encompass some top priorities outlined in France’s National Strategy for AI.
The centre’s initial focus will be developing empathy in robots, using AI in the arts and culture, and brain-computer interaction. Paris’s preeminent status as a global centre of the arts, culture, and design will give this endeavour even more momentum.
“Paris region is fast developing into one of the global epicenters for Artificial Intelligence. We are delighted to see this new investment by TCS, which will boost the AI ecosystem we are looking to develop and provide new opportunities to our students and professionals. I look forward to inaugurating this centre in June.” said Valerie Pecresse, President of the Regional Council of the Ile-de-France region.
“The need of the hour is to boost AI skills present in the country, accelerate the adoption of AI in the French economy, and develop global capabilities here that will benefit the rest of the world. Our new AI centre in Paris will focus on many of these areas, including the development of talent and leveraging the world-renowned culture that France has for design – reflected in its fashion, luxury sector and museums. We will seek to deepen our partnerships with universities, startups, and research centres in the country as we operationalise this centre in the coming weeks.” said Dr Harrick Vin, Chief Technology Officer, TCS.
