History of Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M)

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), a flagship company under Mahindra Group, started as ‘Mahindra & Mohammed’ in 1945. The company began with a steel trading business, which later diversified into different sectors. In 1948, the company was renamed Mahindra & Mahindra. On June 15, 1955, M&M launched its IPO and was listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) in 1956 and later listed on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) as well.  There are more than 2,60,000 employees in the company. M&M has manufacturing facilities in Nashik, Kandivali, Nagpur, Igatpuri, Zaheerabad, Chakan, Rudrapur, Jaipur, Haridwar, Pithampur and Mohali. The company also has a huge global presence in the USA, Canada, Haiti, Mexico, Europe, Asia Pacific, Africa and Middle East regions.  Mahindra & Mahindra has been recognised with several awards, including the Happiest Workplace for Women 2022 by India Today, Excellence in All Round Performance award by the Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI) in 2023, Best Governed Company at ICSI National Awards 2021 and many more.

  • Farm equipment: This division includes brands that are prominent in farming, like Mahindra, Swaraj, Hisarlar, Sampo, MAM, and Mitra.

Dr Anish Shah, Managing Director and CEO Anish Shah joined the Mahindra Group in 2014 as the Group President -Strategy. Prior to joining the Mahindra Group, he worked at Citibank, Mumbai. He did his Ph.D. at Carnegie Mellon’s Tepper School of Business and earned a post-graduate diploma in Management from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.
