Bharti Airtel Limited announced its audited financial results for the second quarter (Q2) and six months ending September 30, 2024. On Tuesday, Airtel share price was in the spotlight.
The company posted consolidated revenues of ₹41,473 crore, reflecting a robust growth of 12.0% year-over-year (YoY) and 7.7% quarter-over-quarter (QoQ). This growth was primarily driven by solid performance in India and steady constant currency growth in Africa.
The India business alone achieved quarterly revenues of ₹31,561 crore, up 16.9% YoY and 8.7% QoQ. This growth in revenue was attributed to improved realizations in the mobile segment and ongoing momentum across Airtel’s Homes and Business divisions. Mobile services in India witnessed an 18.5% YoY revenue increase, fueled by strategic tariff adjustments, a surge in smartphone data customers, and enhanced customer mix.
Consolidated EBITDA stood at ₹22,021 crore, with an EBITDA margin of 53.1%. The India segment contributed an EBITDA of ₹17,295 crore, showing an improved EBITDA margin of 54.8%, up by 86 basis points YoY.
The company stated that in Q2 FY25, Airtel maintained its leadership in the postpaid segment with a net addition of 0.8 million customers, expanding its base to 24.7 million. Additionally, the smartphone segment recorded a 26.2 million increase in customers, up 11.0% YoY. Network expansion remains a priority, with over 5,000 new towers and ~15,200 mobile broadband stations added in Q2 to ensure a seamless connectivity experience.
Furthermore, Airtel has accelerated its network capacity by deploying additional spectrum acquired in June 2024, adding a total of 34,000 towers YoY. Airtel’s 5G network also received high praise, earning five awards for 5G network experience from OpenSignal.
In a pioneering move, Airtel also introduced India’s first AI-powered spam detection solution to combat the country’s spam issue. This tool provides real-time alerts for suspected spam calls and SMS, free of cost for Airtel customers. The solution auto-activates, eliminating the need for customers to raise a service request or download an app.
